Hey, I am getting better at getting the Block of the Month block posted on time.  I am only 1 day late this month.  That could be a record for me!  Hahaha 

Anyway, mosey on over to the BOM page and download the FREE instructions for Block 10.  This is the corner blocks for the pieced border, so you will be able to put on the remaining borders you made last month. 

Only two months left in this BOM -- can you believe it??  This year has gone so fast.  I am working on ideas for next year already, and am thinking I will return to an all pieced quilt rather than the combination pieced and applique quilt I did this year.  What do you think?

I am just not good with deadlines

Deadlines and me are not friends.  For someone who is generally well organized and for the most part punctual, I often find myself stymied by deadlines.  I know I tend to procrastinate, but I am also often weighing WHICH deadline do I adhere to and which do I let slide.  My calendar for the past two weeks has been jammed including but not limited to. . . .

• work (my day job),
• a trip to Cincinnati and back for a convention and family visit,
• a night of Bunco with the girls,
• a set of swap blocks to complete and mail off
• a tax class at the local community college,
• a guild presentation on EQ6,
• an EQ7 class at my local quilt shop,
• a Late Night sewing evening at my local quilt shop,
• an all-day Retreat for Sylvia’s Bridal Sampler BOM,
• an all-day UFO sewing day with my small group,
• another Guild Presentation on “Setting Odd Blocks,” and
• a 4 day retreat in Houston

This week I have

• a Charm Tote class on Thursday night
• a BOM for my guild
• the next Tulip Tiles BOM
• another 5 sets of swap blocks to complete
• and Bus Trip to the Quilt Study Center in Lincoln, NE on Saturday, and the next week
• a 4-day class in Salt Lake City, UT on how to use my HQ16 mid-arm sewing machine.
• not to mention an Aug 4 deadline for 2 quilts which will be published in a magazine next year, for which I have only had a month’s notice.
• oh. . . and did I mention my day job?

Ok, so maybe the trouble isn’t so much with deadlines but with being over-booked!  I do have a calendar on which I organize my life, but it is pocket size and it may well be that I need a larger one to get my schedule life sized.  What I really need is a wife!  You know, someone to take care of all the details that I am to busy to deal with.  I really think most professional women need a wife, or a secretary, or an assistant, an editor, a driver, a receptionist and a fashion consultant.  I already have a husband and a house keeper, but somehow that doesn’t seem like enough!  LOL!  At least I got one thing done today after I got home form the airport, read all my mail, unpacked, took a nap, walked the dog, gave the cat her pill, made supper and waded through a pile of email.

This has been a tough week for me.  I started feeling bad last weekend and thought I had the flu.  It turned out to be first bronchitis and then pneumonia, 2 trips to the ER later.  I went into the hospital Thursday evening and finally managed to come home Sunday morning feelling weak as a kitten, but slightly better than before I went in.  Despite a whole week off of work, I was not able to get any sewing done.  Not sure this week will be any better as I am taking it very easy while I recuperate.

But spring is here, everthing in my yard is in bloom, and I am determined to at least enjoy the weather while I am home. 

So Much News. . . So Little Time

Wow, where do I begin.  It has been quite a month for me with dramatic ups and downs.  Most recently I have been in Ohio with my sister.  My father passed away on March 10 from the complications of Alzheimer's disease.  He had been stricken with this condition more than 6 years ago and my sister was his primary care giver.  I went back whenever I could to give her a break.  Dad was almost 90 and in remarkably good health right up to the end.  Thanks to hospice he was able to stay at home with my sister and go peacefully in his sleep. 

So after nearly 2 weeks away I am finally back home and re-adjusting to work, and getting caught up on quilt projects.

First of all, I am late on posting the next block in my 2010 Free Block of the Month, so without further ado, here is Block 4 of the Tulip Tiles Quilt.

Block 3 Triple Tulips Block of the Month Posted

I just got home from a wonderful four-day retreat and feel refreshed and invigorated.  And the four+ hour nap I had this afternoon after I got home didn't hurt either!  So I jumped on my computer and put the finishing touches on the instructions for BLOCK 3 of my New 2010 Block of the Month Quilt. 

This block will be available for free until April 18 so be sure to print a copy while it is available.  After that is will be for sale on my website.

Tulip Tiles Block of the Month Block #2

I had a bit of time today so I thought I would post the February Block of the month a bit early.  I planned to post each block on the 18th of each month but what the heck.  I am still recovering from my cruise vacation and getting caught up at my day job.  But the snow fell in buckets today so I stayed home and managed to get the 2nd block ready to post.  Here is the block pattern and directions:

New Block of the Month Quilt

Block of the Month for 2010. 

The quilt is called Tulip Tiles and is composed of five 12" tulip tile blocks, pieced sashing and corners stones, applique setting triangles, pieced border with applique corners, and 3 additional borders.  It's blue and white color scheme is reminicient of the delft tiles which often feature tulips or windmills.  The pink and green tulips bring color to the tiles and a breath of spring to the project.  I hope you like making this throw-sized quilt, and perhaps learn some new techniques along the way.

New Block of the Month for 2010 -- Tulip Tiles

I am so excited!!  I can finally share my new free Block of the Month with you.  It is called Tulip Tiles and combines both piecing and applique.  It draws on the wonderful blue and white of delft and dutch tiles, with the added color of bright pink tulips to usher in the spring. This quilt would look wonderful in batiks, marbles, or bright prints.  I have done it in mostly blues and whites, but you may want to choose other colors for your spring time tulip tiles.

This block will be available for 1 month.  When I post the link to Block 2 on Feb 20, 2010, I will remove the link to this block.  It will then be available for sale on my web site.  You will be able to purchase the entire pattern once it is completed.
