New Book, New Pattern, New BOM block

I am happy to announce that EQ has included one of my designs in their new book published this month.

My quilt is the blue one on the cover, and one of 8 from nationally recognized artists and designers.

I was thrilled when they told me my design would be included, and stunned when it appeared on the cover.  WOW

I am selling autographed copies of the book on my website.  They are not only on sale but will have free shipping until September 9.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
September is my BIG traveling month.  I'll be doing a lecture and 2 workshops next week in Rolla, MO and enjoying the beautiful Ozark scenery.
Then I trot off  to do a wonderful retreat in the Boston Mountains of eastern Oklahoma the following week.
Then back to Missouri to the Lake of the Ozarks to teach and EQ8 class, then on to Springfield, MO to vend at the Ozark Piecemakers Quilt Show the end of the month.
I hope you can stop by my booth in Springfields and see a few of my new patterns and my new Fleur de Lis Laser cut Kit!
The blocks can be rotated a variety of ways to create a unique look all your own.  Each kit contains pre-fused and laser cut applique for four complete 12" blocks.
In addition to the instructions for the 4-block pattern you will get instructions for the two block runner or set of 2 placemats.
Wouldn't this make a pretty pair of placemats for your fall table?  You purple lovers are gonna love this new pattern and kit.
Turn the block on point and add corner triangles for a whole other look.  Those corners would be a great place for some pretty quilting.
Kits are now available on Morningglorydesigns.com
The September Block of the Month and Bonus Block are both ready on the 2018 BOM Tab and on my website.  If you are a newsletter subscriber, the newsletter went out today with your links to your free blocks.
September Block 9: Hollyhocks
September Bonus Block 9: Bride of Clam
As you can imagine, there is a story behind the name of this block.  The original block was one I saw on an old vintage quilt  It looked just like a clam.
I was using it in my vintage sampler block of the month back in 2010 and tried to find the origin of this block.
 I found several quilts and blocks which used this block.
I thought that block was way cuter than the one I was using as a model, but wanted to make it a bit different so I made the outside frilly.
I thought it looked kinda sweet, like a bride, so I named it Bride of Clam.
Also next month I am participating in an EQ Seasons Row-A-Long Blog Hop and you are NOT gonna want to miss this.   My row (and the free pattern for it) will be featured on September 15.
Sign up for the EQ Seasons Row-A-Long on Facebook.  The other rows are even cuter than mine and they each represent one of the seasons.  Mine is summer, of course and camping season.  Wait till you see some of the quilts the girls are putting together with the rows.  OMG I am soooo wanting to do one.  So check out my blog in September for this cool event.  I will be offering great fabric pack and pattern giveaways all month long!
Oh, and I saved the best news for last.  Grandbaby #2 is on the way!
A Few New Designs
It is hard to stop drawing and designing quilts using Mexican tiles.  I have been researching vintage Malibu Tiles, a tile manufacturer that is actually still around. The style of Spanish revival tiles from the early 1920's have a bit of a modern art deco feel to them, and then some are just off the map.  I am finding my way to developing a color palate which used the glaze colors which were typical for this style of southern California art tiles.  I admit I can't stop.  There are just too many possibilities.
Here are a few I came up with tonight.  The problem I see with them is that they are lot of applique, and who would want to take on that kind of work?  Yet how can I pare them down to greater simplicity and still maintain the style?  I am working on that.  I found a quilt book by a wonderful designer who used Talavera (a Mexican style of pottery and tile) designs to create very modern looking quilt designs.  They are lovely and much simpler than what I have created, but they lack the traditional feel that I love about these designs.
What do you think?
California (9" blocks)
This quilt is called California and mixes that sunny feel of the Southwest with a stained glass look drawn from the black-outlined circles.  I remember the Spanish Missions in California when I visited as a child and they had this look and feel.  It is made of 2 alternating blocks with a slim black sashing between them.
Circles
Orange Blossom
This one is brighter, more "fiesta-ish" with the primary colors and happy summer feeling.  I named it Chicken Soup because I couldn't think of anything else at the time.  Odd how names come to me based on impressions I get at the moment.  Haha
The blocks 8" squares in a 5 x 5 setting, but any odd number of rows would work out with this pattern.  I really like these blocks and found that I could make dozens of combinations with them.  Alter the colorway and they really created all kinds of moods.
Desert Pansy
Song Bird
 I get such a kick out of designing those twining border blocks.   I know I have earned several years in purgatory for that, but they just intrigue me, and seem to go with the tile designs.  This has been so much fun.  I almost hate to admit I have designed more than 100. . . er, ok. . .200 designs with the more than 60. . . er, ok. . . 100 tile designs I have drawn.
If you have not joined up with my FREE block of the month yet, go get the February block while it is still available.  The January block is for sale on my website if you missed it.  March 1 will be a new block, and those who get my newsletter will also get a bonus block pattern for free and will receive the  setting blocks and instructions for the Fiesta de Flores BOM.  You can sign up for my newsletter in the left sidebar.
Wasn't I suprised to get an invite to be a guest blogger on the INFAMOUS
I'm in the Movies Mom!!!!
Yup,  I finally figured out how to make screen capture videos of EQ7 and put them into my tutorials.  You have got to check this out.  On my tutorial page is my first "talkie" -- a video that walks you through the steps to draw a leaf in EQ7.  It is a very simple drawing exercise but introduces you to several important drawing features in EQ7":
  • Patch Draw Motif  - block drawing worktable used when you want an applique shape but no background.
  • "Oval" drawing tool
  • Brush stroke tool and its settings
  • The Adjust tool for editing your drawings
  • The Color Tab and Paintbrush tool
  • The Save to Sketchbook and Open Sketchbook shortcut buttons
  • Notecard in your sketchbook for naming your blocks
WOW, that's a lot to cram into a 4 minute video.  Plus you get to hear my sultry voice (hehehe) narrate the video.  Turn up your sound because I was a little too far from the mike.  I will fix that on my next video.
Please go in and take a look and let me know what you think?  What lessons would you like me to post?  Anything special you want to learn?  I would love to hear your comments.
Working on an Idea for Teaching EQ7 online -- And a Give Away!
I have had a number of suggestions from readers and students who would like more instruction on EQ7.  I think this is a great idea, and am working on a way to do this in a live, interactive format.  In the mean time I am going to start working on a tutorial for my website.  I thought I would cover some of the basics and then take "requests" for tutorials which address specific skills.
I am starting up and EQ7 Club at my LQS which meets monthly to work on a new skill or project each month.  What would you think about me sharing that lesson here on my blog as well?  I am so loving EQ7 and all the new tools that are available in it, that I want to share that with all my readers as well as the great folks who have purchased the program from me.  Should I put them up for free or charge for the lesson?  Hmmmm, I could sure use some input.
Hey I have an idea!!!!!  Leave a comment letting me know what it is about EQ7 you would like to learn and how you think I ought to set up lessons.  I will select a comment at random and give away a free STASH program to some lucky EQ owner who takes the time to offer suggestions or ideas.
On another note, I recently found out I have a block accepted for publication in the upcoming
Quiltmakers 100 Blocks Vol. 2!!!
Now that has me totally jazzed and my blog will be included on the BLOG TOUR which will be organized around the publiclation of this issue in early November.  I will be having a Give Away for several free issues of the newest version which will inclue my block and all 99 others as well!!  LOL
I can't wait to see which ones they chose of all the hundreds of blocks submitted.  I sent in two blocks and don't know which one they picked.  So it will be a suprise for me as well!
In addition to the magazine give-away there will be other prizes including Free Patterns and Free FQ bundles.  What could be better than that???  More details to come.
Oh, and one more piece of good news!  I just got my first quilt pattern published in a magazine.
Check out Quilters World October 2010 issue and look on page 36.  Here is what you will see:
It is called Spinning Sunflowers and the pattern is published in the current issue.  I am pretty much beside myself seeing my first magazine pattern in print.  Go out and buy the current issue and tell everyone you know.  Better yet, make the quilt!!  The first person to send me a picture of your completed project  will receive a Morning Glory Designs Pattern of your choice!
Holy smokes, I am giving so much stuff away this time that I can't stand it.  I better sit down!  Thanks for sharing my joy with me today while I do my little happy dance.
